Nothing exciting ever before took place to Melissa Berkley. It was time to attempt to change that, she thought. She stood on the stern of the dispatch looking out at the horizon. The horizon on the east revealed the shores of Michigan as the opposite shore; with the preparing sunshine dipping below its horizon was home - Wisconsin. The four-hour trip across Lake Michigan was one she'd considered many times before which time, she thought, she'd make it count for something. A lot of the other passengers stayed inside, watching the scenery from the relative comfort of the cabins, or sat on the deck chair with something to read. Melissa got something to read herself, even if it was only a short note over a post card that read: "To whomever sees this bottle: I lowered it overboard in the middle of Lake Michigan upon this, the 3rd day of Sept 1997. If you find it, please mail this post card back again to me and let me know where you found it."
