Once upon a time - I had been in the next grade at the very rural Quest Point one-room schoolhouse near Cataldo, Idaho in 1936. Our truly wonderful young educator for those 8 levels was Miss Martha Peschel. One morning she announced that an older gentleman, who was a professional report teller, would visit us that day. When he arrived he strolled to leading of our category and was released. He removed his suit layer, smiled broadly and proceeded to state nice words about us, our little institution, and our attractive educator; we thus liked him just fine, even before he began his story. I can't remember what his report was about, what I do clearly remember is the very strong impression he made on me. Wow! What a job. What a career. What a way to have; just travel from institution to school, smile at and speak to kids, get some good fun questions, some applause, and an invitation to come back. How could life get any much better than that? I told my mother all about him and of my objective to emulate this fascinating man. Mom, and later an English teacher in senior high school, gently discussed that my "hero" was a volunteer, a retired person, who made a few local looks to amuse and entertain children, and does this as an function of love, not for the money. Nuts! So...I eventually travelled into business to support my family, to be reasonable about my profession, and try forgetting about the "Story Teller." The schoolhouse, the educator, and most of the students are gone, but I've not forgotten this History Teller from way back when. I've made and placed notes about people, places, events, and animals over time, always secretly wanting I could someday retire and become a Story Teller. I've shared most of my reviews with friends, co-workers, employees, and family during each one of these intervening years, and have thereby refined them sufficiently to receive a knowing smile, some laughter, an agreeing nod, and some gratifying compliments.
