I've just acquired a lousy yr, and this is the storyline of this lousy year. The beginning of it, that is. Just the start, actually. Twelve-year-old Lizzy Bekell is autistic. She lives with her mom and attends a special school. Everything changes, however, when she complies with Margaret, a stressed and lonely girl with a inexplicable past. Margaret considers Lizzy as a fairly easy mark. At the same time, Margaret expects that Lizzy will be her friend. She hatches an idea to wreak vengeance on the boys who tease them, and she makes Lizzy an accomplice. Lizzy, whose weird behavior often seems familiar, as an exaggerated version of our very own anxieties, is soon faced with events that struggle her to triumph over the closed, internal world of autism. How far will Lizzy allow herself to be manipulated before she stacks up to Margaret?
