Inside the fourth Brady Coyne novel, William G. Tapply weaves an account of politics and cultural intrigue. The books starts off with the attempted assassination of a State Department official by way of a Cuban immigrant who yells "Free Haiti" as he charges frontward with his firearm. He is wiped out within an alley as he tries his escape. Stu Carver is the nephew of one of Brady's prosperous clients. He determines to look undercover on the roadways of Boston, posing as a homeless man in hopes of writing a reserve about his experiences. He sends a bum he matches during his research, Altoona, to deliver his webpages of records to Brady at regular intervals. One Mon, Altoona doesn't arrive and Brandy discovers that Stu is deceased. He was found frozen to the loss of life on the roadways, dressed in rags with a belly packed with Scotch. Upon closer evaluation, it is learned that someone caught an icepick in his ear canal. This was no arbitrary murder in Brady's mind. As information on Stu's personal life and his time on the roadways commence to trickle out, and more folks are found deceased from icepick wounds, Brady is in a race to discover who's behind the killings and why. Is there anything regarding the attempted assassination, drugs, or people's sexual preferences, or are these arbitrary killings as the authorities first believe?
