An American journalist named Ben Harris, who works for Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA), is visiting the world in search of stories about Jews in their various communities. This energetic interview with Harris, the "Wandering Jew", about his vacations and visiting, was done generally by email, with two discussions via cam on Skype. When this copy writer spoke to Harris off the record for record, he was in the Jewish Telegraphic Agency offices in New York City, but the reported interview via email comes generally while he was overseas. Harris reviews in his blog about getting the task: "Imagine this: Your supervisor message or calls you up one day. He lets you know he desires to send you on a trip of many a few months, pretty much anywhere you want to go to write about ... well, just about anything you want to write about. You will be blogging, making videos, Twittering, and writing that old standby, the feature report. Starting now, he says, you are to spend your days scrounging up great stories of Jewish life and dreaming up interesting ways to report them across the world. Amazing, right? "That's more or less the genesis of this Wandering Jew, a fresh JTA task that will take me across European countries and North America in the returning months, searching out stories that illuminate the countless ways people go to town Jewishly. Along the way, we'll maybe shed some light on some much larger themes or templates of Jewish life in these early on years of the 21st hundred years."
