This issue of the fivefold ministry - the apostle, prophet, tutor, pastor, and evangelist appointed by Christ to provide his cathedral (Eph, 4:11) - was central to two motions in previous decades: the Shepherding Motion in the 1970s, and the New Apostolic Reformation in the 1990s and early 2000s. While both motions saw important elements of this ministry restored to the cathedral, they also noticed misunderstandings and abuses that avoided the fivefold from becoming more generally proven in doctrine and practice. Yet a brand new influx of fivefold recovery is coming to the body of Christ and with it, fresh understanding about why this ministry is so critical to the expansion, health, and success of both local and global cathedral.
