While staying at Aunt Betsy's where neither she nor her dog seem to be to do anything right, Mary Sue and her dog venture out for a walk, find a large hollow stump with a ladder heading down, and soon end up in an strange sort of land. Even more unusual, everyone seems to know them as Mary the Wonderful and Perfect Pooch and are so delighted they have come to help Ruler Dindy with the difficulty. Mary Sue is not sure she can help, but she considers it might be interesting to meet a Ruler. And so starts her trip in a land filled with surprises, some more pleasant than others.
