Mercer Island, Washington is a bedroom community of Seattle, plopped in the center of Lake Washington and connected to the Big City with what used to be the world's longest floating bridge. Inside the mid-1960s Mercer Island was known for fancy waterfront homes, a fantastic college system, inept sports activities teams, and teenagers with a lot of time on the hands and too much money in their shorts. For the senior high school Class of '65, a great deal of this time was put in at the Samoa Drive In, the Island's top teen hangout, and a lot of that money was allocated to the Samoa's Mozzarella cheese Deluxe, one of the world's best burgers. Mozzarella cheese Deluxe: A Memoir recalls that point and the ones people, and their mainly true, often comic, once in a while romantic, sometimes automotive adventures within the last blush to be kids on the verge of adulthood. Among the burgered are Stackhouse, whose single erotic fantasy consists of a divided Dodge, a depressed mountain highway, and a carrier full of burgers; Frank, the auto shop savant whose only crime is the fact that the authorities hate him; Curtis, who has committed his life to smoking, drinking, driving a vehicle, and being deeply disappointing to his parents; Clifford, who joins the International Jewish Conspiracy generally for the delicacies; Janelle, the fantasy girl of many, who learns something about herself from a dying rabbit; and Tucker, a shy young sax player who, on Sept 5, 1964, combines Mercer Island SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL simply by himself, without any help from lawyers, cops, Government Marshals, the National Guard, or Nicholas Katzenbach.
