"Write a story per month," Larah said. We were brunching on a picnic table outside Wheatsville, on South Lamar. My mouth filled with a Coolhaus Twin Chocolate Chip Cookie and Dirty Mint Chip ice cream sandwich, I said, "Hmmm?" "One history per month, January through Oct," Larah said. "Then distribute it by Dec." "You do not know how hard that might be," I said, swallowing. "Besides, there's basketball to watch, and beverage to drink, and parties and shows and products. That is Austin! No one's gonna sit there and write a story per month while residing in Austin." "Oh," she said. "I thought you were a article writer." And so the gauntlet was thrown. This 10-history (and two article) collection of postmodern literary fiction is the result of that obstacle, for better or worse. A story a month, most of them having been excruciatingly scrutinized by the infamous Austin Writing Workshop, and so.... y'know. There's that. Deadlines do seem to be to work miracles for productivity, but they do not ensure quality-only you can choose that. So, I am hoping you enjoy reading them as much as I have loved writing them.
