In an excellent narrative, NY Times best-selling creator Callahan chronicles the four-month (Apr - August 1989) have difficulties of Jim Nalepka and three other crew (Phil Hofman, John Glennie and Rick Hellriegel) to make it through on the capsized trimaran adrift in the the stormy seas of the wintry South Pacific. For shelter, the four huddled collectively in a dank hull compartment 20 inches high and only as wide as a double-bed. The majority of their equipment was lost in the same gale that triggered them to capsize. These were drenched almost constantly with frigid seawater, and captured fish and collected rainfall for sustenance prior to the wind and current finally transported them to New Zealand's Great Barrier Island.
