Stories from Shakespeare was originally written in 1807 by Charles Lamb and his sister, Mary, as more comprehensible (and interesting) variants of the original Shakespearian text messages, specifically however, not solely for children. The initial preface to Lamb's work records that Shakespeare's words "are being used whenever it looked like possible to bring them in; and in whatever has been added to give them the regular form of your connected story, diligent care has been taken to choose such words as might least interrupt the effect of the beautiful English tongue where he wrote: therefore, words introduced into our dialect since his time have been so far as possible averted." 2 hundred years later, Lamb's writings continue to delight and teach.
