Radarman Second School Zack Martin detects himself as time passes for representation while going for a smoke break on the moonlit morning hours aboard a Navy plane carrier. He'd would prefer to be almost anywhere else than aboard a "damned bird farm" crossing the Gibraltar Strait. The veteran sailor is unhappy and longs to discover a way to get back to destroyer duty in the Pacific. The secret is to accomplish that without sinking his Navy profession. Carrier sailors find it challenging to transfer back to the surface fleet, and an ensign fresh from training who is bursting with self-importance isn't aiding issues. Yet, another bungled job by a shipmate brings about a life-altering decision by the brass and, before long, Martin may have the opportunity he's always desired. In hindsight, however, he might have wished to stay right where he was. Sketching on creator Bob Stockton's 20 years as a Navy man, Stories from the US Navy: I. A Suicide in the Mediterranean puts listeners in the heart of the action aboard an plane carrier and its own dedicated crew. Bob Stockton served starting in 1957, cruising the seven seas while aboard surface vessels (destroyers), diesel-electric submarines, plane carriers, auxiliary vessels, reconnaissance episode squadrons, and patrol gunboats in Vietnam. After retiring as a main petty officer, Bob acquired undergraduate and graduate levels and spent some time working as an adjunct graduate teacher, shipyard welder's helper, epidemiologist, pharmaceutical trainer, small business owner, and radio coordinator. Now considered fully handicapped because of exposure to Agent Orange while in Vietnam, the Trenton, NJ, native makes his home in Jacksonville, Florida, near his three children and three grandchildren. This novella is the first in a series of three Bob expectations to create by the end of 2014.
