During the winter and planting season of 1990, three Spokane area women were found lifeless, their physiques dumped along the Spokane River. The murders were similar enough that law enforcement considered them the consequence of one person and believed those to be the work of the serial killer. But as quickly as the murders began, the killings seemed to end. Detectives suspected the Spokane River Killer was either lifeless, incarcerated or got moved from the area. Six years later, the physiques of murdered women once again began arriving all over the Spokane area. In 1999, Robert Lee Yates was imprisoned and law enforcement hoped that they had finally found their killer. In 2000, he plead guilty to getting rid of 11 women from the Spokane area between 1996 and 1998. During the analysis however, Yates was eliminated as a think in the 1990 slayings. DNA retrieved from within the fingernails of the 3rd sufferer was eventually identified to be from a man. But no match could be found. Their man was still on the loose. In 2009 2009, DNA from a national inmate was matched up to the DNA retrieved from within the fingernails of the 3rd sufferer. The inmates fingerprint was also matched up to a print out retrieved from a bottle of vaginal lubricant within a dumpster combined with the second victim's discarded items. Police finally presumed that they had their man. But performed they? The DNA match belonged to a lady inmate.
