A good idea not distributed or recognized by others is a pity. An excellent idea not distributed and recognized is a tragedy. Presenting and public speaking is so much more than the courage to stand in front of a group and talk. For a presentation to be powerful, it must have the right amount of content, structured in a memorable way for both presenter and audience, supplied with power, warmness, and charisma, and it must be spoken in the words of the audience. How much content is enough? How much is too much? Most open public speakers work so difficult to give great value with their people that they inadvertently make an enormous blunder; they include much too much information in much too short amount of time. Time is never a speaker's good friend. Going overtime in a presentation is an egregious problem and rude to the nth degree. How well is your presentation organized? If you must count on records, cue credit cards, or a whole lot worse, slides, to keep you on track, the condition is not just one of memory; the condition lies in the business. Excellent loudspeakers use systems and strategies so the presentation is easy to allow them to remember and impossible because of their audiences to forget. Through good organization, speakers are able to build anticipation, excitement, and proposal; so simple, however, not easy. Speakers aren't generally trained actors, nevertheless they do need to know their way around a performance space. Don't like that phrase, "performance"? Get over it, because each time a speaker stands to deliver a message they may be absolutely, un-categorically, giving a performance. As such, knowledge of stagecraft is as essential as is the concept. Which area of the space is the most powerful? The weakest? How can a presenter use that information to aid the audience in understanding the concept? What exactly are the best ways to enter in and exit? A general knowledge of how to use presentation areas properly is extraordinarily valuable to every great presenter.
