We commenced this voyage of self-discovery about 2 yrs ago. Our children were gone and we wanted to use our living space a little in a different way. We wanted to clean out some of the clutter we'd accumulated from nurturing two teenage guys and generally clean out our home. Little do we know that before we were done, we'd change our view of material belongings, and also start rejecting our ethnic addiction to owning more stuff. How it all started: I got arranging our "storage space room". It had been a 12x10 room and almost completely filled to the ceiling with belongings. Fifty percent of the stuff was sporting goods, which I have almost never used. So I obtained up snowshoes, cross-country skis, downhill skis, preparing food pots, tents, backpacks, and cook stoves. I donated it all to a thrift store and thought good about offering to charity. They would make perhaps $1,000 and I was rid of an encumbrance. I came back to my humble home on Eld Inlet on Southern Puget Sound, with a feeling of optimism. I didn't really know what I would do next so far as cleaning up our home, but I got fired up to be doing something.
