Robert Rotenberg's persuasive tale Stray Bullets is the storyplot of a spontaneous filming at a Toronto donut franchise, a firefight that leaves a four-year-old son dead and a crucial eyewitness, an illegitimate alien, vanished in to the night. Ari Greene, the official responsible for the Tim Hortons firing struggles to split up the facts of the circumstance from the countless conflicting eyewitness accounts. Just how many shots were terminated, and from how many guns? Which witnesses - if any - are reliable? And the way to go about tracking down the shooter, who melted in to the cold November darkness? Greene soon confirms that we now have people involved in the circumstance with other agendas than resolving the crime. He locks horns first with Nancy Parish, a security attorney for one of the suspects, who's evidently in over her mind. Then he must do battle with Ralph Armitage, an arrogant Crown Lawyer who's anxious to exploit the truth to help expand his own career. For his part, Greene only wishes to bring a killer to justice and present the grieving parents of the young victim some solace. Not as easy as it appears to be in the murky world of those who assign little value to real human life, and all too much to personal gain.
