Greatly popular upon its release in 1902, The Story of Peter Rabbit presented a mischievous bunny who encounters a cranky old gardener and his pet cat. Beatrix Potter's work was notable for its exciting illustrations of pets or animals and imaginative characterizations of rabbits, squirrels, cats, and mice.
