An upper middle-class white young man from the peninsula, or beach-side, of the Inland Waterway, and a dark boy of smaller means, who lives western world of the railroad songs, where Blacks (who have been called Negroes and other titles at that time) were required to live, become friends, regardless of the racial parting in place in the '60s in the south. David "Jude" Armstrong and Roosevelt Harris meet at a basin of a yacht club. Jude, the white young man, fishes from the docks, where stately ships stand. Roosevelt, the dark young man, and his family, fish with cane poles on the wall structure next to the street. The guys meet various times over the years. The tranquility of Jude Armstrong's safe, upper middle-class white world ends when his alcoholic mother tosses his father out of our home. Roosevelt Harris' life has never been tranquil. He is continuing to grow up along with his grandparents. He has never known a father, and his mother is a heroin addict who disappears for weeks at a time, and is also incarcerated frequently. Neither young man is aware of the racial issues of that time period. Both boys fully understand the misery and difficulties that arise from maltreatment of alcohol and drugs, and both swear they'll never finish up for the reason that situation, yet they both follow the same course. Eventually, Jude's father, Lansing Armstrong, an attorney, helps the guys escape legal prosecution for drug-related crimes, and becomes a guiding light for both guys. Roosevelt grasps sobriety much faster and easier than Jude does. As the creator of a successful restaurant business, Lansing Armstrong eventually places both Roosevelt and Jude in charge of the business enterprise. Jude and Roosevelt struggle to overcome their prior problems, and eventually lead normal and successful lives. White Glucose, Brown Glucose comes after their loss of innocence, submergence to the depths of desperation, and eventual emergence as recovering people. It is a story of friendship, expectation, strength, and motivation.
