The better half of popular Florida Congressman (and potential Senatorial applicant) Clegg Caffery is murdered. FBI Special Agent Matt Thurston starts an investigation leading him from the Pentagon to the tiny town of Clewiston, Florida, in search of a photographer accountable for the photo found in the murdered woman's palm. He occurs too late. The person has determined suicide. Although Thurston uncovers a peculiar and suspicious report about the useless shooter that he feels is worth continued investigation, he's abruptly steered from the case by his superiors. Although Evil Town is a work of fiction, it is dependant on historical and current incidents. The Vietnam aspect of the storyline delves in to the massacre of Vietnamese villagers at Co Luy. This took place on the same day as the My Lai killings and took place as detailed in the book. The military services and political cover-up of the incident detailed in Evil Town is an interpretation of actual incidents that relegated Co Luy to the trunk pages of background. The information of the political maneuvering related to the restoration of the Everglades, also to the "sugar wars" in Florida, is a dramatization of the intrigue becoming enjoyed out by vitality brokers, the mass media, and Congress on this issue.
