The Saga of Lyn: The Reawakening is a convincing tale of a simple man's escapades as he looks for justice for the murder of his better half and daughter, and then realize that his planet is threatened. When a mystical visitor destroys jovial Tegain Hostler's tavern, eliminating his beloved better half and princess, Tegain is devastated. Not knowing how to get the pieces of his shattered life, he converts to his friend, the investor Karl Dunmire, who comes after the wreckage the following morning. Karl, a previous Marshal in the Royal Wayman Dragoons, advises him to travel to the next-largest town to seek legal assistance in searching for and bringing to justice the murderous villain. Karl agrees to go along with Tegain upon this trek. Ever before the investor, Karl provides Tegain a battered and rusty old sword that he swears will tidy up to an excellent instrument of safety. Little does he recognize that the sword is strange in many ways. His training and Tegain's courage, along with new friendships, will soon be required as they once more join forces to face down demons of their people’s past that now threaten their future. Carter has peopled a richly-drawn pseudo-medieval world with believable, well-fleshed personas. This sweeping story proceeds at a rapid pace, and primarily seemingly arbitrary details are later discovered to have great significance.
