Ulysses S. Give (created Hiram Ulysses Give; April 27, 1822 - July 23, 1885) was the 18th President of the United States (1869-1877). As commanding standard, Give led the Union Armies to win within the Confederacy in the American Civil Conflict, which ended shortly after Robert E. Lee surrendered to him at Appomattox in 1865. Following the war, Grant served as commanding standard, applying Congressional Reconstruction, often at possibilities with President Andrew Johnson. Double elected president, Give led the Radical Republicans in their work to remove the vestiges of Confederate nationalism and slavery, protect African-American citizenship, and beat the Ku Klux Klan.
