The subtitle is A Serio-Comic Novel of Anne Bonny & Mary Read. It is not the whole account of Anne and Mary; this is more like an origin account. The tale is actually true in its outlines, but historical accuracy is occasionally confused by authorial invention. The landscape is the Caribbean, 1718: Englishwoman Mary Read is required to disguise herself as sailor Martin Read; then things get more difficult when she comes deeply in love with another sailor, Peter Meredith, a brilliant man but rather clueless about the sea... who also offers no proven fact that his best ally is a woman. To make matters worse, they're both captured by pirates. To create matters worse yet, one of the pirates is Anne Bonny, Southern belle changed scourge of the Caribbean. Anne requires a very strong liking to Martin Read - which enrages her lover, Captain Calico Jack port Rackam. Mary's life becomes a whirlwind of intrigue, imprisonment, fatal duels, and unwanted erotic advances that are incorrect even by the rather loose criteria of 18th-century pirates. And there are other problems: the new Governor of the Bahamas wants to put a finish to Anne Bonny's job, and a vicious foe from Calico Jack's recent has gone out for a bloody revenge. The only way out of most these various predicaments is designed for Mary Read and Anne Bonny to synergy: to become listed on swords and put their trust in one another and in no one else. Predicated on a true account, The Legendary Adventures of the Pirate Queens combines dilemma and comedy in order to the tale of two women who in common times would never have met; yet did meet, and went on to be the most fearsome couple of sea-faring hellions in the Western world Indies.
