The Story of a Spirit (l'Histoire d'une Âme personally) is the autobiography of Thérèse of Lisieux. It had been first posted on Sept 30, 1898, yearly to your day after her death from tuberculosis at age 24, on Sept 30, 1897. The book was a single volume developed from three distinct manuscripts - manuscripts of different period, written at differing times, addressed to different people, and differing in one another in figure. The work of unifying these disparate manuscripts was completed by Pauline, the sister of Thérèse. It had been initially posted with a limited audience at heart, the Carmelite convents and certain spiritual personalities, and just 2000 copies of the 475-webpage book were printed. It quickly became a publishing happening, however, and Sister Thérèse of the Child Jesus was canonised in 1925. St. Dismas Catholic Classic editions are all new translations.
