I've found poetry to be a wonderfully spiritual way for me to commune with God, and it concerns not whether I am writing the poems, or just reading them; a noiseless serenity comes over me during those times that is clearly a great comfort to my heart. I started my writings more than 30 years ago during a amount of time in my life after i was unable to sleep well during the night because of a painful back. As a consequence, throughout the night time, I would have to get up to apply a warming pad to get relief. It was during this time in my life i began to learn the Bible, which subsequently led me to begin writing poetry. I've found the Holy Bible to be most effective in uplifting ideas and have also been transferred to write a few of my poems simply by the eyesight of a beautiful sunrise or sunset, a hill view; or simply just a phrase, a saying, or a world will pop into my brain at times while I'm working out. Many ideas have come to me in my sleep and at those times, I am compelled to get up and go to my computer or even to get a pencil and newspaper to jot the theory down before it is forgotten.
