Ethereum is an open-source, open public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform offering smart deal (scripting) functionality. It offers a decentralized Turing-complete virtual machine, the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which can perform scripts using a global network of open public nodes. Ethereum also offers a cryptocurrency token called "ether", which is often transferred between accounts and used to compensate participant nodes for computations performed. "Gas", an internal transaction pricing mechanism, can be used to mitigate spam and allocate resources on the network.Ethereum was suggested in past due-2013 by Vitalik Buterin, a cryptocurrency researcher and programmer. Development was funded by a web based crowd-sale during July through August, 2014. The system went go on July 30, 2015.
