Based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Dairyman) and other stories by Sholem Aleichem. The storyplot centers around Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his efforts to keep up his Jewish religious and cultural customs, as outside influences encroach after the family's lives. He must deal both with the strong-willed actions of his three aged daughters, who want to marry for love - each one's selection of a husband goes further from the customs of his faith - and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from other village.
