By 2106, the overpopulated, heated-up world's chaos. Disorder brings an oppressive "Brotherhood" to power in the north hemisphere. The party believes in male superiority, the privileges of property, and dictatorial guideline. Technology has produced faster-than-light space boats, however. Jan Sussinissen, the kid of an rebel head, sneaks up to speed one such ship. He will pretend to scout some of an earthlike world that stressed discoverers known as New Start. The Brothers intend to implant there a feudal current economic climate with Brotherhood bosses and serf-like, agricultural personnel. Jan, in escaping, also dreams to infect such a contemporary society with civilized principles. He lands in the forested north of the planet with an associate of the Brotherhood. "Insect men," eight-foot creatures that hop like grasshoppers and climb trees, but can't swim or make it through severe frosty, immediately harm them. Gunshots don't stop the horrors, which remove Jan's friend of his flesh. Our protagonist escapes them by swimming to an island. There, he uses success skills he obtained as a junior in his local North Canada. He develops a canoe and, finally, a cabin with an island in the very far north. Jan challenges to reconstitute the technology developed by mankind over thousands of years. He understands how to insulate a drafty log shelter, treat skins and make warm clothes, and how to concoct cleaning soap, vinegar, bread, smelting coke, and other essentials. Jan learns at a Brotherhood administrative middle that fission explosives have been detonated in the slots of America and Europe. Also, the Senior Brother recognizes him as a rebel "ringer." Thus, Jan must flee the guts to avoid execution. Later, he returns for a short time to lead a rebellion of refugee serfs. Barbara Levy, an extremely resourceful entertainer helps. After victory, a small cadre of skilled women and men become a member of Jan at his homestead.
