John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was Teacher of Anglo-Saxon (Old English) at the College or university of Oxford. His research on Beowulf continues to be considered a typical in the field. Tolkien, however, unlike most Oxford dons, stepped out of his role as teacher to produce popular literature. Tolkien's best-known writings were The Hobbit and The Lord of the Bands, where he created a fully recognized world known as Middle-earth, vaguely identifiable as Northern Europe in a pre-history that never was. To create his world alive, he produced detailed geography and cartography and a legendary background. He peopled the world with diverse types of inhabitants and created spoken and written dialects for them. By doing this, he essentially created modern dream literature and a typical for subsequent authors to chase and miss. A British poll by the end of the 20th century known as The Lord of the Bands the main English-language work of that century. During his lifetime, Tolkien didn't appreciate people concentrating on him somewhat than on his writings. He sensed that his writings were more worth attention. With apologies to the overdue gentleman, he is now scheduled some notice.
