Far out in the south-eastern part of the Pacific Ocean is placed one of the world's most remote control islands. Located over 2,000 miles from Chile and South America, the nearest continent, and over 1,300 miles from its nearest inhabited neighbor, Pitcairn Island, Easter Island is a solitary mass of land alone at the southeastern-most point of the Polynesian Triangle. And yet this small patch of land, a mere dot within the great Pacific Sea, is one of the most famous islands in the world. Today, Easter Island is nearly synonymous for the initial artifacts that sophistication its coastline and interior, specially the practically 900 monumental statues that are unlike anything found elsewhere throughout the world. Known as "Moai" by the island inhabitants, these statues have surprised everyone who may have seen them personally or in photos, plus they have befuddled researchers attempting to answer important questions about them. The Moai also range noticeably, with the tallest getting a elevation of over 70 foot and the shortest being significantly less than 4 foot. With the average statue getting a height around 13 foot and a weight of several plenty, it's unclear how or why the inhabitants built them, and given the manner in which they were placed across certain parts of Easter Island, it is also unclear how the inhabitants transferred the large monoliths. In addition, some researchers have speculated that only a 3rd of the Moai made it to their designed vacation spot on the island. Naturally, before these statues could be created, the individuals who made them needed to find their way to Easter Island's desolate location, that was quite literally in the middle of the nowhere. They also needed to learn how to stay there and endure. The story of Easter Island's statues is incredible, but the story of how people came to be there to begin with is merely as incredible.
