(The English sergeant-major of Gen. Hopson's Grenadiers) On Sept 13, 1759, a challenge was fought on the Plains of Abraham beyond your old city of Québec. It had been one of the turning-point fights in world record. Thanks to the British success and the incidents that adopted, Canada travelled from being a colony of France (New France) to being a colony of Great Britain. This permanently transformed Canadian history. In lots of ways the outcome of the challenge brought about several American efforts to seize Canada during the Revolutionary Conflict and the Conflict of 1812. Finally it ensured that when Canada became an unbiased country it was area of the English Commonwealth with an Anglophone bulk and a Francophone minority. Frictions over cultural and political issues between the English Canadians and the Québécois, dating back again to the battle, continue steadily to impact the situation in Canada today. While the challenge had a deep impact, it has also been romanticized and mythologized beyond even epic proportions. Though often overlooked today, more than 250 years following the battle, the Fight of the Plains of Abraham was the culmination of an extended siege.
