Bill Eidson obtained a hit with The Repo, the first installment associated with an acclaimed series presenting ex-DEA Agent Jack Merchant and boat repossession builder Sarah Ballard. In The Mayday, Eidson continues their intimate, fractious partnership as they visit a man's children, lacking on the high seas. No-one feels Matt Coulter's history of his foundered sailboat, a life raft adrift during the night, and a recovery converted kidnapping - least of all, the police. Jack and Sarah don't either, initially. However they reluctantly take the case, and the further they follow its twists and converts, the more convinced they become that the lacking children are still alive. At least for the present time.
