Vanessa Veselka grew up a child in action. After her parents divide, she'd lived in nine claims by age seven, eventually getting with her mom in 1970s Greenwich Community. In 1804 sailors of the Russian Empire possessed orders to have Sitka, Alaska's strategic outpost guarded by Tlingit warriors whose bird-beaked helmets and spears possessed already repelled several Russian expeditions. The Tlingit dental histories of the struggle, passed down for hundreds of years, cured it as a success. However when Veselka began researching it, she found that the battle had been recorded in Western record as a Russian triumph. How could the two attributes have such divergent accounts? And by understanding why, could Veselka find a fresh link with the Tlingit herself?
