Fought by men who hailed from all sides of the globe, it saw an incredible number of soldiers do battle in brutal assaults of attrition which dragged on for a few months with little to no respite. Tens of an incredible number of artillery shells and untold vast sums of rifle and machine firearm bullets were fired in a turmoil that showed man's capacity to wipe out each other on the heretofore unprecedented level, as always, such a warfare brought about technological innovation at a level that made the increase of the Industrial Revolution seem stagnant. Because of this, World War I was the first truly commercial warfare, and it created a paradigm which come to its zenith with World War II and towards which virtually all equipment, advancement and training were dedicated throughout the Freezing War and the remainder of the 20th century. To this day, modern warfare remains synonymous with tanks and mass infantry fights, although a confrontation of the nature has not occurred (except briefly during Operation Desert Surprise) since World War II.
