Within just a month to become president, the issue of Communist Cuba became central to John F. Kennedy and his supervision. On February 3, 1961, President Kennedy needed a plan to aid Cuban refugees in america. Per month later, he created the Peace Corps, an application that trained young American volunteers to assistance with economic and community development in poor countries. Both programs were important pieces of the Cold War. They were efforts to align disadvantaged groupings abroad with the United State and the West resistant to the Soviet Union and its communist satellites. On the other hand, covert businesses were laying the groundwork for overthrowing Cuban head Fidel Castro, and he recognized it. Castro railed against CIA engagement among Cubans who were endeavoring to overthrow him and his still-young revolution. Matters came up to a mind that April, when the Kennedy Supervision moved beyond gentle measures to immediate action. From April 17-20, 1,400 CIA-trained Cuban exiles got on the beaches of American Cuba in an attempt to overthrow Castro. This plan, known as the "Bay of Pigs", had formerly been drafted by the Eisenhower Supervision. The exiles got in Cuba and were likely to be greeted by anti-Castro forces within the country, after which the US would provide air encouragement to the rebels, and the Castro plan would slowly be overthrown. Soviet head Nikita Khrushchev's idea that he could force the inexperienced American head around grew in the wake of the Bay of Pigs fiasco and the inconclusive Vienna summit in June 1961, which left Kennedy complaining to his sibling Bobby that Khrushchev was, "[L]ike working with Father. All give and no take."
