Bailey McMillan's life is a mess. Everyone blames him for his former employer's nuclear air pollution, resulting in professional disgrace. Humiliated, he takes a job as an editor at a knowledge journal run by his best friend, John. That part isn't so very bad; Bailey is keen on John, who seems to find Bailey's abrasive aspect amusing. Unfortunately, doing work for John also leads to writing an astrology column in trade for getting free rein in a few op-ed articles, and then being sued over one. The (totally coincidental) exactness of the column offers chance for further professional disgrace if anyone discovers its writer. And Bailey digs himself just a little deeper. In an attempt to verify astrology is bogus, he agrees to an experiment thus far someone from each celebrity sign. As though that weren't bad enough, Bailey's acquired a stupid crush on John, who stubbornly insists on a detailed breakdown of every night out, bad and usually. Bailey's luck must improve sometime, right?
