When you hear the term gospel, you usually think in terms of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, but tonight I want to introduce you to the gospel as within the characters of Paul. Listen to these words carefully: "I am astonished that you will be so quickly deserting him who called you in the elegance of Christ and turning to a different gospel, not that there surely is another gospel, but there are a few who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or any who hear him, should preach a gospel that is contradictory to that which we preached to you, let him be accursed." Then he repeats this declaring: "I have said before so now I say again. If anyone demonstrates to a gospel that is contrary to the gospel we preach, let him be accursed." You will notice that Paul includes himself for the reason that statement, since it is possible under the threat of death or pain or torture for man to confess that he was incorrect. (The churches made Galileo confess, under the threat of Cain, that the planet earth was stationary and not moving around the sun, even though today we know Galileo was right.)
