Ruler Solomon is one of the very most famous men in the Bible but also one of the very most elusive historical statistics. He is credited with supervising the engineering of the first Temple in Jerusalem, and excavations and archaeologists continue to dig in order to think it is in places that are actually religiously very sensitive for Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Information about Ruler Solomon comes almost exclusively from the booklet of Kings, once in a while supplemented by additional materials found in the booklet of Chronicles. That is problematic for several reasons. First, the booklet of Kings will not simply record the activities of the king and the details of his reign for posterity; the author weaves a narrative that is often more concerned about making theological points than saving historical details. Additionally, the first release of this booklet was written in the 6th century BC at the earliest, about four centuries after Ruler Solomon could have resided, by an editor given the subject of Deuteronomistic historian. Chances are that editor relied after some type of royal "court background" as a source file. The temptation with a figure like Solomon can be to go to one of two extremes. Some readers may want to take a look at Solomon only as a historical figure without acknowledging the literary elements that play a major role in his life account. Other readers may find themselves at the other extreme and view Solomon totally as a literary figure, dismissing any historicity by any means from his account. Given how important he is as a religious figure, it's essential to keep in head both the literary and historical components of the monarch's account.
