A very Australian report of heroism and restoration. In 2004 Garth Callender, a junior cavalry official, was deployed to Iraq. He quickly found his toes leading convoys of armoured vehicles through the streets of Baghdad and in to the desert beyond. But one day his team was targeted in a roadside bomb invasion. Garth became Australia's first serious casualty in the conflict. After recovering from his accidental injuries, Garth came back to Iraq in 2006 as second-in-command of the Australian Army's security detachment in Baghdad. He found a city in the hold of a growing insurgency. His product had to cope with missile problems, suicide bombers and the fatality by misadventure of 1 of their own, Private Jake Kovco. Decided to avoid the varieties of bomb problems that still left him scarred, Garth volunteered once again in '09 2009 - to lead a weapons brains team in Afghanistan.
