Alongside Hammurabi, Nebuchadnezzar II is kept in mind as you of Old Babylon's most important kings. Nearly 1,000 years after his famous predecessor, Nebuchadnezzar oversaw the growth of the Neo-Babylonian Empire through the seventh and sixth generations BC, which positioned him in conflict with Egypt and the early kingdom of Judah. His ruthless conquest of Judah led to the devastation of Jerusalem and the complete kingdom, and it finally received him notoriety in the Old Testament, where he is pointed out in the books of Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. Not only is it depicted in the Bible, Nebuchadnezzar was well known among early historians and modern day writers as a result of Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the early wonders of the world. Relating to early accounts, Nebuchadnezzar constructed the Hanging Gardens for his homesick better half by creating terraced and cultivated orchards which were built over some buildings made of glazed ceramic. An estimated several a large number of gallons of drinking water was attracted from a tank by having a network of reeds and bricks, presented alongside one another by asphalt and cement, with lead used as a sealant. The Gardens were built on a citadel 80 legs high, with walls 22 feet thick. Even today, Nebuchadnezzar is associated with the Hanging Gardens, even as scholars continue steadily to question whether the Hanging Gardens were actually built in Babylon or even been around whatsoever. While Nebuchadnezzar's name lives on largely due to the Bible and the Hanging Gardens, behind everything was a guy recorded by the Babylonians and his contemporaries as a competent and successful king.
