To make essential oils, olive oil have to be extracted from crops. This is done through expression and distillation. Expression: Also referenced as cool pressing, expression is a way used to extract oil from citrus fruits like lime, orange, tangerine, lemon, and bergamot. Before, expression didn't require any kind of tool except for a sponge. After soaking the citrus rind or zest, it is repeatedly pressed resistant to the sponge to absorb the olive oil. The sponge is then squeezed more than a container to get the olive oil, which is allowed to separate from its juices. The olive oil is siphoned off and bottled after a couple of hours. A modern type of expression involves by using a blender-like device that's outfitted with spikes. After the citrus zest, rind, or peel off is located in these devices, it rotates, prods, and pricks the citrus until the oils are released. Oil are collected in the bottom of these devices and bottled immediately. Distillation: Most essential oils are extracted using the distillation process. In this technique, the herb part is located on a grid that's inside a box called a still. The is still then sealed. Normal water, steam, or a water and steam mixture swirl inside the sealed still and slowly and gradually break down the plant, liberating its volatile components and switch them into steam. These components then rise up and accumulate in the condenser. After the condenser is cool, the components revert back to liquid form and are gathered in another container. After the gas separates from water, it is siphoned off and stored.
