Even if you think you do not know him, you understand him. Few in the Hollywood orbit have had greater impact; few have experienced more humiliating inability in their life-time. Thanks partly to the biopic directed by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp, and bearing his name, Ed Hardwood has become an icon of Americana. Perhaps the purest manifestation of Wood's théma - green angora sweaters, over-the-top assault, and the fraught romantic relationships between the sexes - can be found in his unadulterated short stories, a lot of which (including "Blood Splatters Quickly") appeared in short-lived "girly" mags released throughout the 1970s. The 32 testimonies included here have been verified by Bob Blackburn, a reliable associate of Kathy Hardwood, Ed's widow. Within the 40 years or more since those original looks in adult mags, none of the testimonies has been open to the public. Hardwood died in 1978, however the legacy of the director of Plan 9 from Outer Space, Glen or Glenda, Prison Bait, therefore many other loved display screen classics has only grown in importance. Hardwood talks - not least for himself - as you of America's "outsiders" swept up in the battle to find approval inside - rather than more immediately than in the materials in this publication.
