StoryCorps OutLoud sets out across the country to record and maintain the experiences of LGBT individuals with their individuals and friends. OutLoud is a project undertaken in the storage area of Isay's dad, psychiatrist Dr. Richard Isay. Skillfully credited for assisting to persuade the mental-health community that homosexuality is not really a mental disorder, Dr. Isay was himself a closeted gay man for many years. He arrived to his boy at age 52, and in 2011 he married his partner of 31 years, Gordon Harrell, before passing away suddenly from cancer tumor on June 28, 2012. On June 28, 2014, the 45th wedding anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, StoryCorps inaugurated OutLoud, a three-year project to fully capture the experience of LGBTQ people. Specifically the project will seek experiences from teenagers, minorities, and the ones who lived prior to the uprising, that was a reply by gays to a police force raid on the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Community and helped precipitate the gay rights movement.
