"Chancellorsville and Gettysburg" (1882) is a war memoir by Abner Doubleday.
From the preface:
In writing this narrative, which pertains to the decisive plan which freed the North Says from invasion, it may not be out of spot to condition what facilities I have got for observation in the fulfilment of so important an activity. I could only say that I used to be, to a considerable extent, an acting professional in the displays I identify, and knew the principal leaders on both attributes, in effect of my connection with them at Western world Point, and, eventually, in the standard army. Indeed, many of them, including Stonewall Jackson and A. P. Hill, were, before the war, officials in the regiment to which I belonged. As commander of the Defences of Washington in the springtime of 1862, I used to be, owing to the nature of my tasks, brought into intimate relationships with the statesmen who managed the Government at the time, and became well acquainted with Chief executive Lincoln.
