From time to time when I have a period of time from researching and writing my thrillers, I write brief stories including the ones accumulated for the very first time in this new anthology, Trust as well as other Nightmares. Each one of these tales has its germination in evenings when my sleeping was out of the blue savaged by ethereal visions and does sound sufficiently disturbing to wrench me from tangled, sweat-drenched bedding. A few of them have observed a little of daylight before now, and the previous two debut here. All of them are spawned of the dancing skeletons and reanimated corpses that plague the bleakest, blackest time preceding my blessed dawns. They include:
- "Trust", without which a murder-suicide pact is only revenge's favorite formula
- "Rougarou", in which a terrified boy discovers it's never easy to tell monsters from saviors in a desolate Louisiana swamp
- "Frankie's Last Affair", where we're taught that if a thing is truly artwork, someone has to suffer for it
- "Canis", a post-apocalyptic story where in fact the wolves in sheep's clothing have no lock on cross-dressing
- "Showtime", when a famous television psychic medium's dusty solution is he is aware there is no such thing as spirits
