Download A Special Mission: Hitler's Secret Plot to Seize the Vatican and Kidnap Pope Pius XII AudioBook Free
In September 1943, Adolf Hitler, furious at the ouster of Mussolini, delivered German troops into Rome and ordered SS General Karl Wolff, who was simply Heinrich Himmler's chief aide, to take up the Vatican and kidnap (and perhaps get rid of) Pope Pius XII. At the same time, programs were being designed to deport Rome's Jews to Auschwitz. Wolff started playing an unhealthy game: stalling Hitler's story resistant to the pope, whom he hoped would save him from the noose in case Germany lost the battle. To save lots of Pius, Wolff and fellow conspirators blackmailed him into silence when the Jews were round up, wanting that Hitler would rescind his order.
