Even though 100 babies are stillborn every day in the United States, losing an infant is still considered an invisible loss. Parents have a problem with anger, guilt, and despair, often only. I wrote Alex's tale (quite extended in its own right) as the start of the reserve I am authoring the life of my child, Nicholas, who was born 21 a few months after Alex was stillborn. Alex was also diagnosed at birth with an incurable and possibly lethal pores and skin disorder called Epidermolysis Bullosa. Grieving parents will find in these words the solace of knowing they're not alone upon this agonizing avenue, validation with their babies' lives, as well as perhaps my way of coping and finding meaning in this seemingly meaningless loss can help, too.
