"The Runaway Skyscraper" is a research fiction storyline about Arthur Chamberlain, an engineer who works in a midtown Manhattan office building called the Metropolitan Tower. When sunlight suddenly starts moving backwards in the sky, placing swiftly in the east, he's the only one to realize what's actually happening: a flaw in the rock beneath the building has brought on it to subside, but rather than moving in space, the building is dropping backwards into the past. If the subsiding finally ends, the building is located thousands of years before, and its own 2000-unusual inhabitants end up stranded in pre-Columbian Manhattan. Chamberlain also realizes that the same seismic makes that brought on the building to drop back to the past can also be used to come back it to the present, but that doing so will require several weeks of intensive work by the building's inhabitants, and for the time being they must concentrate on feeding themselves...
