Herbert George Wells (1866 - 1946) was a prolific British writer of science fiction experiences and books, and is generally credited as being the father of science fiction. 'The Flowering of the Unusual Orchid' is a creepy horror report about an orchid collector who will buy an unknown kinds from the Andaman Islands. The botanist who collected it had passed on in a mangrove swamp along the way - allegedly from an episode of jungle leeches. The collector is obsessed by his new acquisition and waits excitedly for it to sprout leaves and then bloom. Finally the fantastic day occurs - but there is something very weird about this bloom - something very weird indeed....
