One year after the Falklands Battle and the entire world seems a safer place. Regrettably, 1983 is the year WW III almost occurred. Staggeringly, it was only afterward that the reality arrived to light: that the Russians actually went to full nuclear alert and arrived so very near starting Armageddon. Even today, most of the world's inhabitants know nothing about any of it. Lieutenant Jonathon Hunt (Sea Skimmer) has been appointed to a commando helicopter squadron operating in North Norway. It's the height of the Cold Battle, and the Soviets have found out a hidden knowledge NATO submarine listening station concealed in the Arctic ice. They would like to do something positive about it but cannot think of a method of strike until they choose the use associated with an Ekranoplan. This large machine, known to NATO as the "Caspian Monster", can get them in and out fast enough to provide them the deniability they want. Caught up in happenings, Jon and his observer, Brian Pearce, end up soaring a Sea King Tag 4 helicopter from HMS Illustrious to the ice in an attempt to stop the Soviets before tragedy occurs.
