Ricky asks what sort of person so beautiful as she can be so unfortunate, to which she responds that she actually is sad because she actually is beautiful but lacks intelligence. Ricky then bestows the gift of intelligence on the elder princess for a guarantee of matrimony.
A yr later, Ricky comes to marry her. She refuses on grounds that he cannot maintain her to a guarantee made before she gained her knowledge.
